Applications are invited for the permanent position of Senior Health and Safety Advisor within the Prevention Services Department.  This position is included in the bargaining unit.  

DEFINITION OF WORK  

This position is accountable to the Manager, Prevention Services for the co-ordination, development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of effective occupational health and safety strategies and initiatives delivered for stakeholders.  As an industry sector champion, the Senior Health and Safety Advisor must establish, maintain and promote effective relationships with colleagues, employers and/or industry groups to promote healthy and safe workplaces. This is achieved by developing effective working teams to foster partnerships with employers, Occupational Health and Safety Committees (OH&S), Workers Health and Safety Representatives/Designates (WH&S/D), and stakeholder associations through the application of superior customer service.  The goal is to educate all stakeholders in the prevention of injuries and disease and promote best practice models in the workplace.   

The Senior Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for identifying policy, program and service issues arising from day to day field operations.  The incumbents will facilitate effective resolution to field issues through the mentoring and coaching process.  The Senior Advisor will also act as an expert resource to assist field staff in their decision-making processes.  To ensure service delivery standards are monitored and assessed, the Senior Advisor will develop new or revised guidelines and materials which ensure standardized approaches within the Department.   

QUALIFICATIONS  

Diploma or degree from an approved College or University with a concentration in occupational health and safety management and a relevant safety designation.  Demonstrated experience in structured team building and oral/written communication skills are key components of this position. Candidates must also have at least 3 years industrial experience in auditing and health and safety promotion at the corporate level.   

A vehicle and valid driver’s license are requirements for this position.  

SALARY        This position carries a classification of 588 points 
                        Salary Scale - $65,568 - $72,339
