Survey of Traffic Control Training Sessions by Training Providers and Trainers
The September 1, 2009 amendments to the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Health and Safety Regulations will further help employers and workers in meeting their legislative responsibilities, specifically in high-risk activities.
Section 20.2 (e) of the WHSC Act gives the Commission the authority and responsibility to develop certification standards as required by the Act. Training standards have been developed for First Aid, Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Committee/Worker Health and Safety (WH&S) Representative; Mines Rescue Training and Power Line Hazards. The OH&S Regulations will also give the Commission the authority to develop training standards for Traffic Control, Fall Protection and Confined Space Entry based on legislative requirements.
Currently, we are consulting with stakeholders regarding the development of traffic control training programs. Please take the time to review and complete the attached survey in assisting the Commission to develop and implement a traffic control person training standard.
The goal of the training standard is to assist employers and workers in ensuring traffic control persons are working in the safest manner possible to keep themselves and others safe. Workers will not be permitted to do work as traffic control persons after January 1, 2011 until they have completed training as prescribed by the Commission.
Please complete and return the survey to Dee Anne Feltham-Scott, Health and Safety Programs Coordinator at mailto:dscott@whscc.nl.ca or fax 778-1587 by November 27. If you have any questions or feedback, please call 778-1044 for further information.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
