OH&S certification training

In order for a firm to provide certification training for occupational health and safety committees/worker health and safety representatives/workplace health and safety designates, the firm must be registered as an approved provider with the Commission. This applies to private consultants as well as firms providing in-house training for their own staff. To become approved providers, firms must supply evidence that they meet the standards as prescribed by the Commission in the booklet entitled Certification Training Standards for Occupational Health and Safety Committees/Worker Health and Safety Representatives/Workplace Health and Safety Designates.
A firm can not be approved as a provider unless the firm has a trainer(s) that meets the following criteria:
- successful completion of OH&S committee/WH&S rep./WH&S designate certification training session and knowledge of adult education techniques OR;
- health and safety knowledge and experience, knowledge and experience in adult education techniques, and have conducted any occupational health and safety related training session in the past twelve months (i.e. WHMIS, hazard assessments, first aid, etc.).
A trainer can not provide training unless he/she is working for an approved provider. A trainer, such as an independent private consultant, can apply to have his/her consulting company approved as a provider with him/her as the trainer.
The Training Provider Registration Form must be completed in order to become approved to provide certification training. Please read the form carefully, complete both pages in full, and forward it along with supporting documentation for each proposed trainer to the address provided on the form or fax to 778-1564.
